Trailer Bunk Problem

Guys,

I have noticed that my center trailer bunks seems to scrape a thin layer of my hull off each time I launch. I know this because when the boat is off the trailer there is a white flakey film left behind on the foward 1/3 of the center bunks.

The guy i bought the boat from replaced these bunks himself and the center ones do not run parallel. In fact they are about 4 inches from touching each other at the bow. Is this the cause of the problem?

I cannot see where any major damage or hull weakening has been caused, but i would guess that eventually this will occur unless the problem is fixed.

Thoughts?

My does the same, if I had not launched in a long time. The key to fix this, was I make sure my boat begins to float on its own during the launch. Then bring back out enough to set her back on the bunks. Then launch as normal. Hope this helps.

So you are saying back the trailer far enough into the water so that be boat doesnt slide on or off.

I squirt some liquid dish soap on the bunks as well. I never even have to touch it. It slips right off and winches on with ease. ;)

You back in keeping the bow hook attached to the trailer. watch for the boat to start floating, then drive back out enough for the boat to sit back down on the bunks.theis will get the bunks good and wet, then easy to slide off.then perhaps you do what push & pull suggested.

A word of caution

I agree with Push & Pull on using soap, however be aware that you should never unhook the winch rope from the boat until you get to the bottom of the ramp. My brother-in-law did and his boat ended up on the ramp before it got to the water.

When I had my 170cc I also tried a cooking spray like you use on your skillets.

There is a product called Liquid Rollers that you spray on the bunks. WARNING! Do not unhook till you are at the bottom of the ramp and ready to launch.
I've used this product as it was mentioned here some time ago.

I spray silicon on the bunks once in a while. Works great if I remember not to unhook the wench rope too early!

Hey Ken,
I like your thinking,,,,,,,when I bring my "wench" along, I'm gonna keep her tied up with a rope too.........:D

Thanks Capt. Bill. If you hook the winch to the wench than she can hold the boat til it floats.

guess I better look a little closer before posting.
