This is the first fishing excursion on the Logic boat and man was it a blast...
Headed out to the New River in Jacksonville this morning with my son Bryan and his
buddy Ryan..we were
going to target red drum, flounder and speckled trout...we put in at the
New River Air Station marina..
When we got there we stopped and caught some bait at the old sea plane ramp.
Plenty of bait everywhere but
it was hard to spot in all that chop that was blowing in from a Easterly direction...
finally enough fresh
bait and onward to the ramp.....
Set sails and went to the new 24 bypass bridge and
tried the pillings....Ryan pulls in the first fish
on the boat...
Nothing else happening ..so headed to Jagged Point....pulled up and bait every where so we
anchored and Ryan again with a 14 inch speck so
Bryan helped him out and help it for the photo ...
Sit and put out a rattling cork, 3 bottom rigs
for reds and casted jigs ...but nothing else
from that spot..so we moved and drifted some other
water and Bryan caught back to back flounder..
Then the boys hitting the chum bucket...I mean
the chicken bucket..
Rejuvenated and ready Ryan with a small drum..
Caught nothing else for a while so moved and
checked out the upper creek of SW creek...rode up
a ways looking for bait moving...turned around
came back to almost the mouth and fished the reeds
on the left going out....
Dad finally with something..back to back small
drum....
Moved on a little farther and bammmmmm....Dad has
a nice one on....21 incher..
Then Bryan with a real nice croaker..caought him
and the bottom fell out..so we cranked up and
went to the marina..loaded up and headed home.
Bryan and Ryan said something huge followed the
croaker to the boat but they couldn't tell what
it was..maybe gar..we were couple hundred yards
from the marina..
Great day on the water...
