Drilling holes in a galvanized trailer?

Hi,

Just received a set of replacement LED lights for the galvanized trailer. The bolt spacing does not match the holes on the tail-light plate. Is it OK to drill holes in a galvanized trailer as they would be not coated and prone to rust later?
I am thinking, if the new holes rust on the inside later, it would effect the grounding connection through the bolts.

Thanks,
Bobinder

either use a bit of sealant of spray-on galvanize after you drill and all should be well.

NP, CRC makes some called "Instant Galvanize" and it comes in an aerosol can and is available at West Marine, etc

Works great on fresh metal, however, if there is rust, remove the loose rust, paint on "Ospho", let it dry, then paint using the CRC spray-on galvanize.

what he said.

Ospho is the some foul-smelling, top-notch rust treatment!
