Help! I have a 210with an EZ Load trailer which you all know is tandem wheel trailer. I had a mechanic replace the drum brakes with disc brakes. Where I bought the kit to replace they said that I also needed a solenoid for the back up lights to disengage the brakes while backing. My mechanic said that he thought that the old system would still work and I didn't need the solenoid(sp?). ALSO, has anyone had bearing problems when you have to make a tight turn in a parking lot or at the boat ramp? My wheel make a pop and snap when I have to do this, which I try not to get into that situation but some times it can't be helped.I am worried that I may cause a bearing problem it I have to do this much. Believe it or not the snapping poping is not the bearings. It is the suspension. Its normal. as for the electric solenoid....nah you do not need it. Thats only for the lazy people who do not wish to step out and disengage the brakes.
I replaced mine all is good.

i just replaced my drums with a disc system and there was a backup solenoid installed in the new actuator that couples to the truck. did they just do brakes only?? if yes then you may be able to use the manual lockout pin that should be on the current actuator----only way to know is back it up in a sandy place and see if the brakes lock up while backing

BTW the solenoid requires an extra 5th wire wiring harness or a manual wire jumped back to the tow vehicle

Back up solenoid

I put a manual valve in the line instead of the electrically operated solenoid valve because I didn't want to connect a wire to the back up light circuit and rig up a 5 wire connection. The other option, as mentioned, is putting the pin in place to keep the surge actuator from compressing as you are backing up.

You should also verify that your mechanic modified the valve in the actuator for pressure bleed off, or changed the actuator for one set up for disk brakes.
