Adding a second axle

Has anyone added an axle on the e-z-loader trailer? I found the link to the ezloader store (thanks) and it looks like I can go through and put the parts list together, but thought I would check for tips. I should have taken a close up photo at the dealer of how the two axles are connected (the rocker).

I'm headed to baja next month and will be beach launching my 195 CC (by vehicle of course). It wont stand up there with the one axle trailer, (as Triumph seems to have figured out).

Just Curious but why would it not work with one axle. Is it because it will sink in the sand.. Just wondering

something will give

Yea, my biggest concerns are:

Broken axle/trailer parts parts due to poor roads (the washboard pounds everything to pieces)
It will sink in the sand when I go to launch and the boat trailer combination will get stuck
I'll loose a tire when I get run off the road by the trucks on mex1 (almost inevitable eventually).
I'll really think I will be at or over the the weight of the GVW/tire ratings when I'm all fueled and loaded for week long trips

playasf,

I am with you on the single axel concern. I have the same setup as you and find that the 1 axel with the boat empty appears to be at best just adequate for the weight. The trailer frame seems to have twist and bows that make it look scary. My fenders are so out of wack the tires have rubbed on the inside of both fenders. The springs also do not seem heavy enough for the unit.
One other problem I had with the trailer springs, is that they were set a different heights. I had to move one of them to level out the unit.

Good luck with adding a second axel, I would like to know how it all works out as I would be interested in doing the same thing.

I also do not feel comfortable about long hauls with this unit as it sits now. I know that the Mex 1 highway is a real challenge and not to be taken lightly.
Good luck fishing Baja.

Well.... Im sending the trailer off to have the second axle installed by a company that builds boat trailers out in the valley. They quoted $700 plus cost of the two wheels and tires. Seemed like a decent deal.... We'll see how it turns out and I'll let everyone know. Ohh Im also going to have guides (side posts) installed to keep the boat centered in surf/crosswind launches. Does anyone have any experience with these?
Thanks

I like having the guides on the trailer. Just helps lining up the approach. Driving on the EZ loader is very easy but the guides are a confidence booster. I like the ones with trailer light extensions too. :)

I like the guide post especially at one of the ramps I launch at there is always a cross current.

Get you some 16" Rims and Load Range D Tires from EZ-Loader.... This is what I did and has been the best mod so far :)

Guides

Hi Play,

I purchased a set of guides with lights on top from Outdoor World.

Work great and easy to install. The lights attach to existing trailer wiring, however, I ran the wires up to the tongue and did the splice there to reduce the chance of water in the connection.
