When I got home from my second to last boat trip, I smelled the unmistakable odor of gear oil. The left oil cap on my hub was leaking. I assumed a loose cap, but when I touched it, it leaked more.
I removed the wheel and the cap. The cap had cracked almost all the way around the threads. I was frantic as I was taking the boat to the Columbus Day Regatta in two days.
I called EZ-Loader and explained my situation. They referred me to the EZ-Loader warehouse in Port St. Lucie.
They guys there sent me two new caps (aluminum with a clear insert) overnight ground and I had the trailer repaired in a few minutes.
I found the problem. Seems when the assembly person smacked the cotter pin, he/she hit the threads on the hub. The small deflection of the thread cut the plastic cap and over time, the cap cracked.
I filed down the offending thread and the new cap screwed on without a problem.
Again, a BIG THANKS to the men from EZ-Loader in Port St. Lucie.
